What Exactly Is P-Sand and
Why Does Gradation Matter?
P-Sand โ short for Plastering Sand โ is Zone III grade manufactured sand produced by crushing granite through a VSI (Vertical Shaft Impactor) crusher. The "Zone III" classification under IS 383:2016 refers to a specific particle size distribution: finer than Zone II M-Sand, with a higher proportion of particles passing the 600-micron sieve.
This finer gradation is exactly what makes P-Sand ideal for plastering work. When you apply plaster to a wall, you need the sand particles to fill the voids in the cement paste uniformly โ coarser Zone II M-Sand leaves surface pinholes and micro-cracks in plaster finishes. Zone III P-Sand creates a denser, smoother, more adhesive plaster layer with significantly fewer cracks and better waterproofing properties.
Our P-Sand is manufactured at the same Keerapakkam VSI plant that produces our BIS IS 383:2016 Zone II M-Sand. Every batch goes through the same sieve analysis, silt testing, and weigh-bridge verification before dispatch. Silt content is maintained below 1.5% โ critical for plaster bond strength.
Hardware shop "plastering sand" often comes from unknown sources without IS 383:2016 zone certification. About Our P-Sand
M-Sand (Zone II) is for structural concrete work โ RCC, foundations, columns, slabs, and brickwork mortar. P-Sand (Zone III) is exclusively for plastering โ internal plaster, external plaster, ceiling plaster, and block joining mortar. P-Sand has a finer gradation (lower fineness modulus) which creates a smoother, denser plaster surface. Most house builds need both products: M-Sand for the structural phase, P-Sand for the finishing phase. Our P-Sand price is Rs.1,150 per tonne, all-inclusive delivered to your site anywhere in South Chennai. This includes the material, transport from our Keerapakkam plant, and all compliance documentation (BIS cert, sieve analysis, silt report, specific gravity, weigh-bridge slip). GST at 5% is extra. Minimum order is 500 kg. Bulk discounts apply: 5% above 50t, 8% above 100t, 12% above 250t.

A rough estimate: for a standard 12mm thick plaster coat, you need approximately 1.5โ1.8 tonnes of P-Sand per 100 sq ft of wall area (for both faces of internal + external walls combined). A typical 1,200 sq ft house with 2,400 sq ft of total wall area would need approximately 18โ22 tonnes of P-Sand for complete plastering.
